Why Choose Amoena Breast Forms & Prostheses?
At Silhouette Mastectomy, we specialize in Amoena breast forms and breast prostheses because of their extensive selection, quality and long history of innovation in breast care.
No two post-surgical bodies are exactly alike. The shape and depth of the surgical site, remaining breast tissue, body shape, lifestyle and personal preferences can all affect which breast prosthesis provides the best result. Amoena's wide selection of shapes, sizes, profiles, weights and technologies gives our Certified Mastectomy Fitters more options to achieve a comfortable, natural and beautifully balanced fit.
50 Years of Breast Form Innovation
Amoena has specialized in breast care since 1975, when company founder Cornelius Rechenberg developed the world's first silicone breast form. Since then, Amoena has introduced numerous breast-form technologies, including lightweight silicone forms, adhesive Contact breast forms, temperature-equalizing Comfort+ technology and adjustable Adapt Air breast forms.
Today, Amoena breast forms continue to be developed, tested and manufactured at the company's headquarters in Raubling, Germany, where its research and development team works with medical professionals and other breast-care experts.
Lightweight & Xtra Light Breast Forms
A breast prosthesis doesn't always need to weigh the same as the breast it replaces. Depending on your surgery, body shape and individual needs, a lighter breast form may provide greater comfort, particularly for women with a larger bust or those experiencing neck, shoulder or lymphatic concerns.
Amoena introduced its first lightweight silicone breast form in 1996. Today, different Amoena lightweight technologies can reduce the weight of a breast form by approximately 25% to 40% compared with a standard breast form of the same size, depending on the model.
Importantly, reducing weight doesn't simply mean using a soft filler. Amoena's silicone breast forms are designed to retain the shape, movement and appearance expected from a permanent breast prosthesis.
Comfort+ Temperature-Equalizing Technology
Heat and perspiration behind a silicone breast form can be uncomfortable, particularly during warmer weather or an active day.
Amoena's Comfort+ technology incorporates temperature-equalizing material into selected breast forms. It is designed to absorb excess body heat and release that heat again as the body cools, helping maintain a more comfortable temperature behind the breast form and reduce perspiration.
This technology can be combined with other Amoena features, including lightweight and adjustable breast forms.
Contact Breast Forms
Some women prefer a breast form that attaches directly to the chest wall rather than having the entire weight of the form supported by the bra.
Amoena introduced its Contact technology in 1998. A specially designed adhesive silicone layer allows the breast form to adhere directly to the body and move naturally with you.
Contact breast forms can provide another fitting option for women who prefer the feeling of having the breast form attached directly to their body.
Whether a Contact form is appropriate for you will depend on your surgical site, skin and individual preferences and can be discussed during your fitting.
Adapt Air — An Adjustable Breast Form
One of Amoena's more recent innovations is the Adapt Air breast form.
An integrated air chamber allows the volume of the breast form to be adjusted by adding or releasing air. This gives your Certified Mastectomy Fitter another way to fine-tune the breast form to your individual chest wall and achieve symmetry with the remaining breast.
The adjustability can also be useful when your body changes over time due to weight fluctuations, swelling or other changes in breast volume.
Selected Adapt Air models combine several Amoena technologies in one breast form, including adjustable volume, lightweight or Xtra Light silicone and Comfort+ temperature management. Some models are approximately 40% lighter than a comparable standard breast form.
Different Shapes, Profiles and Weights for Different Bodies
Technology is important, but having choice is equally important.
Breast surgery can leave very different chest-wall contours from one woman to another. Even after a double mastectomy, the surgical outcome can be different on each side.
That's why breast prostheses are available in different:
- Shapes and sizes
- Cup profiles
- Weights
- Full and partial designs
- Symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes
- Standard, Light and Xtra Light versions
- Contact and non-contact designs
- Adjustable designs
Having these choices available allows your Certified Mastectomy Fitter to compare different breast forms rather than simply choosing a prosthesis based upon your bra cup size.
The Breast Form Is Only Part of a Great Fit
Even the most advanced breast prosthesis won't provide its best result if the size, shape, profile and weight aren't appropriate for your individual body and surgical outcome.
At Silhouette Mastectomy, your Certified Mastectomy Fitter privately assesses your post-surgical chest wall and considers its shape and contours, remaining breast tissue where applicable, your body shape, lifestyle and personal preferences.
Our dedicated breast form fitting room contains an extensive selection of Amoena breast forms, allowing your fitter to compare different options with you privately without having to leave the room.
The goal is not simply to find a breast form that fits into your bra. It is to achieve a result that provides comfort, balance, symmetry and a natural appearance under your clothing.
