Mastectomy Recovery Guide

Silhouette Mastectomy has over 25 years of helping women recover and look and feel their best after a cancer, reconstruction or breast reduction surgery. We offer the following information to help educate you on what your surgery will entail... and help reduce your post surgery stress.

We at Silhouette have listened to our clients and other health care professionals and found our 3-step program to be the most successful.

1/ Prior to and Post Surgery 1-6 Weeks
We recommend the post surgery camisole, with built-in shelf bra designed for comfort and featuring a step-in entry. Post surgery camisoles come with attachable pouches for drainage tubes and include lightweight fiber-fill breast forms.

Following surgery, most women find these garments to be helpful and much more comfortable to wear then bandages and a hospital gown. Their soft cotton fibers and ease of wear make them the perfect choice. If a post surgery camisole is too hot, then a great alternate choice is a post surgery Bra, otherwise known as a "Sleeper" bra which is designed to be ultra comfortable.

2/ Post Surgery 3-8 Weeks
As you heal, support and comfort will be essential. The sleeper or compression bra features front closure hooks, making it easy to wear and fasten during post surgery healing.

3/ Healing Underway - 8 Weeks and beyond
Now that your healing is well underway we recommend you be fitted by our certified staff with a mastectomy bra and prosthesis / breast forms chosen with your personal needs in mind. Studies have shown that returning your natural balance is important for future physical and mental well being.
